Movie scene Recreation - Man of steel interrogation scene
For our task we had to recreate the interrogation scene from Man of Steel shot for shot, including the original dialogue.
Man of Steel is a reboot of the superman franchise, it is about a man called Kal-El who is born on a planet called Krypton, his parents send him to Earth as his planet gets destroyed. He lands on a farm owned by Jonathan and Martha Kent who call him Clark and raise him as their own, but due to his supernatural abilities he is on the fringe of society, despite this he has to become a hero to save the people he loves from people from his home planet. In my group I was the director, to be this I told everyone what they need to do and where to be.
When we filmed we encountered many problems for example we had to compromise on locations and costume/props because we filmed during our lesson and we wouldn't of had enough time to change into costumes and make props that were accurate. However due to the small time frame we came up with alternatives for props for example for the handcuffs we used a measuring tape, for the 'S' on Superman's suit we just used a piece of a paper and drew a simple S onto it. Also we used the space we had available, for example we used an empty classroom and switched the tables around to make it as close to the orginal as possible.
Also we had to make sure the shots were as close to the original as possible but the locations we used made it harder to exucute them properly. We also didn't have alot of preperation time beforehand so this led to people forgetting their lines which meant we had to start again which was very time consuming and meant we didn't have enough time to complete the editing. Out of the 9 shots in the clip we managed to film all of them even though it took a very long time. There was some noise in the background while we filmed parts of the scene that didn't have any dialouge but next time we can just mute the sound instead, the shots that did include dialouge was clear and you could hear it.
Overall the task wasn't as succesful because it took our group a while to get it done and we had to film when we were supposed to edit so we didn't get as much editing done. From the task I have learned that as a group we need to make sure that we have everything thoroughly planned out beforehand because when we did the task it was very rushed because we took a lot of time preparing when we were supposed to be filming.

Harry Brown opening analysis
- Harry Brown opening scene
Harry Brown is a 2009 British vigilante thriller film. The story follows Harry Brown, a widowed Royal Marines veteran, who had served in Northern Ireland during The Troubles, living on a London housing estate that is rapidly descending into youth crime; Harry fights fire with fire after a friend is murdered.
The opening camera shot of the scene is a hand held shot of a group of boys smoking which suggest the film is going to be about troublesome boys on an estate. We see then see a close up of a gun and then a close up of a boy holding a gun towards another boy, this suggest that they are immature boys and troublesome boys. Then we see another hand help shot of the boys beating up another boy which suggest that this film may include a crime background as also after we see a blur and cop cars.
We hear dialogue which is of street talk and not formal at all. This gives an idea of where the kids are from and how they were brought up. The sound is also fast paced and very loud which I think represents youths of today.
The mise en scene of this scene includes a lot of things such as guns, phones and the boys are all dressed in hoodies and track suits which is typical of a youth boy from London. We also see a guy on a bike which is a common way teens tend to travel around on as it is quick and easily accessible. The editing in the film is very quick tempo. It starts of slow and calm but as it progresses and we see the weapons it quickly goes from slow too quick to confuse the audience.
Dark knight opening analyses
- The Dark Knight is a fantasy movie that again, is grounded in reality. It's a story about and evil set around the comic book hero Batman. The Dark Knight starts with a bank heist, The Joker becomes the dominant focal point in this scene alongside 5 other men who wear clown veils and gradually get murdered off one by one all through the clip. It opens with title screens for Warner Brothers, Legendary Pictures and DC Comics, then we see a gigantic blue shaded fireball which then delivers the Bat signal.
It slices to a long shot, which as acts a setting up shot, of a substantial building and the camera starts to rapidly track in towards the windows of the building. As it slices to this shot we again hear the sound of a blast clamor took after by a tone that proceeds over the sound of the ticking. These joined give the feeling that whatever will happen in this scene could be connected with threat as the gradually rising tone makes strain among the observer. The scene cuts to reveal a man standing with his back to the audience whilst the camera slowly tracks in to his back. He is holding a blue bag and a clown mask to tell the audience that this character is also one of the bad guys. The gathering in the workplace building join a sack to their zip line and afterward go down themselves.
As they go down the camera fallows them out the window and afterward rapidly tilts down to demonstrate the route down to the road to make a sentiment uneasy upon the onlooker, as it does the soundtrack all of a sudden makes an expansive blast clamor and as it cuts again it carries on as we see long shot demonstrating the comedians zip lining with the road underneath them. It slices again to demonstrate to them landing securely on the other side. We see the other group of clowns in the car and hear our first line of dialogue. There are a total of 3 people wearing clown masks in the car. At no point during this part do we see any ones face. Although, the light outside is very bright the inside of the car is very dark to again tell the audience that the people in this car are the bad guys of the film. The music begins to pick back up as it again cross-cuts back to the group on the roof.

Audience research
horror questionnaire.
Part of my initial research was finding out about some horror questionnaires to see some of the questions they are asking. i have found many things in which i dont agree with. for example the first question is not correct as they give you an answer choice of 12-15. This is wrong as all horror films are aged 15 or 18, this means that 12-15 shouldn't be there.

BBFC
The BBFC stands for the British Board of Film Classification, and was set up in 1912. It is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films. This means that they regulate the films that come out and give it a certain certificate based on what the film involves. For example if a film has sexual features and graphic violence the BBFCs function is to give that film a certificate 18 as it will not be suitable for younger audiences. I will haft to take this into consideration when making a film as our audience is for the certificate of 15. So we will haft to add moderate violence and no form of sexual content. But as my film is a horror film it has the potential too have blood and gory violence. A film that i have looked at is Insidious, i looked at this because it is the same genre of film i want to make. The age rating for the film is aged 15 as it has moderate gothic horror. The film couldn't be a 12A because the BBFC recognised that the film had moderate violence and horror.
As my film is a 15 i looked at the BBFCs criteria. Some things you may see in a 15 film are strong violence, portrayals of sexual activity, discriminatory language or behavior, drug taking.
SOUND ANALYSIS
Sound:
|
As my main film is going to be a horror film i looked at the codes and conventions of horror. Now that i have this i can apply this to my research and my final film.
in this scene most of the sound used is diegetic. As the guns fired are used to make it sound real and hook the audience.

The film that i researched in which was in the psychological genre and which i got some ideas from was the film The Shinning. The Shining is a 1980 British-American psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, and starring Jack Nicholson. This film is about a man who goes crazy and turns to kill his wife and kids. I got inspiration from this film as i made my film have a mental character. From my research in the psychological genre i gathered a lot of information about the main characters in these films. Many of them had background stories and they are hiding something. The mise en scene is the film is mostly dark clothing as the main characters dresses in a suit which is similar to my character. The camera angels are mostly high angles to show the main characters power and close ups to see the reactions of people who hes hurting. The sound is very high pitch with a lot of screeching, from watching this i wanted to integrate it into my film.
